The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has established a new Big Data to Knowledge (BD2K) initiative to engage the broad biomedical community in understanding the Deep-Data characteristics of large, complex and diverse analogue and digital data arising in healthcare, social and environmental investigations Advancing the Big Data acquisition and modeling technologies, scientists are increasingly generating and employing huge amounts of heterogeneous data. However, our ability to analyze, interrogate and understand Big Data and the biomedical and behavioral processes it represents remains limited. BD2K initiative aims to develop the new approaches, standards, methods, tools, software, and competencies that will enhance the use of Deep-Data by supporting research, implementation, and training in data science and other relevant fields that may lead to. The BD2K initiative is committed to Open- and Reproducible-Science and all BD2K R&D, training and collaborative activities are freely shared online (e.g., http://www.BD2K.org, BD2K GitHub, and Big Data Resourceome)
