Center for Complexity and Self-Management of Chronic Disease (CSCD): Call for Pilot Project Proposals.
Request for Applications (RFA): Pilot/feasibility studies in complexity and self-management of
chronic disease.
Timeline. One page abstracts are due April 1, 2015. Individuals will be selected to submit full proposals;
due date for the full proposal is June 1, 2015. One-page abstracts must be
emailed to
Carol Kent by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, to be considered.
The pilot/feasibility study applications must address:
- The effects of self-management interventions,
- The complex underlying mechanisms of self-management interventions or
- Self-management for people with multiple complex comorbid conditions.
Studies must include a limited set of
common data elements: Center CSCD demographic data,
PROMIS Global Health short form questionnaire and Groll’s co-morbidity index.
The use of other PROMIS instruments will be encouraged.
Full proposals will be limited to 5 pages and must include specific aims; a research plan with
significance, innovation and approach; total budget will be $25,000 over 2 years; and a current
biographical sketch of the principal investigator. In addition, investigators must request
specific services of the Center. All proposals will be reviewed using NIH criteria and scoring.
Eligibility. Post-doctoral fellows and assistant professors are eligible for funding as
the principal investigator if they have no prior R level or equivalent grant funding
(R-01, R-29, R-15, or R-03). Pilot/feasibility studies must be interdisciplinary with investigators
from at least two disciplines who are fully engaged in the research. Principal investigators from
outside of nursing must have a nurse researcher as a Co-PI with a substantial role in the project.
The Center will fund two new pilot/feasibility studies each year. For more information about the
pilot/feasibility studies
